Monument of civil architecture of the beginning . XX century, is a city-forming factor in the historical development of the quarter. The architecture of the building uses the techniques of classicism and Old Russian stone architecture. A typical example of eclecticism.
The building was built in 1913. There was also a merchant's shop here. The building was repeatedly completed and rebuilt, eventually, by the end of the 1980s, it acquired impressive dimensions (very often so-called apartment buildings were built in Kostanay, assigning them to rent).
The building belonged to the merchant Kargin. The second version is the former house of merchant Bakirov
It consisted of two blocked 2-storey blocks with a basement, on the 1st floor there were shops with storage facilities. The warehouse of everyday goods was located in the basement. On the 2nd floor there were living rooms, a living room, a kitchen. Simultaneously with the construction of the Kargin house, a one-story shop of the Yaushev merchants was being built near the shopping square on Nikolaevskaya Street (Altynsarin Street).
The original appearance of the monument has not been preserved as a result of numerous reconstructions.
Description of the monument
Dating of the monument: late XIX – early XX century.
Location: Kostanay, 71 Al-Farabi Avenue
The building consists of four interlocked rectangular volumes in plan with dimensions of 104 m x 10.2 m, elongated along the longitudinal axis from east to west. The building is two-storeyed, laid out of burnt brick on a rubble strip foundation, plastered, whitewashed. The two extreme blocks differ in their decoration and decor. The block located at the intersection of Al-Farabi Ave. and Altynsarin St. is one of them. The windows of the 1st floor are almost square, large with fine glazing, decorated with stone platbands. The first floor is separated from the second by an inter-storey belt along the perimeter of the facades. On the second floor, the windows are much smaller in contrast to the windows of the first floor and rectangular outlines.
The following second and third blocks are characterized by simplicity in the design of facades. The fourth block has a rich decoration on the southern facade.
The roof is gable over three blocks and hip over the last block. The roof is covered with roofing iron. There is a basement.
