(1899, village No. 21, now Taranovsky district of Kostanay region -1974) was a Kazakh Soviet theater and film actor, People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR.One of the founders of professional Kazakh theatrical art. He began his creative activity at the age of 20: from 1919 he began to participate in performances of the amateur troupe "Red Caravan".
He studied at the Orenburg Pedagogical Institute, actively participating in amateur activities. In 1925, he was invited to the Kazakh Drama Theater named after M. Auezov. Umurzakov has played more than 150 theatrical roles. The history and formation of Kazakh cinema and theatrical art is connected with the name of Yelubai Umurzakov. He starred in the main role in the first Kazakh feature film "Amangeldy" in 1938. He was awarded the Orders of Lenin, the Red Banner of Labor, the Badge of Honor, and the laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR. Honorary Citizen ofKostanay. The Kostanay Philharmonic is named after Umurzakov.
