Since 1942, at the front, deputy commander of a rifle company, later - political officer in the 163rd Rifle regiment (Volkhov Front). On January 17, 1943, he was seriously wounded during the breakthrough of the Leningrad blockade.
Maulenov worked as a deputy editor of the Kostanay regional newspaper, then - in the staff of the Writers' Union: he was the editor-in-chief of the republican literary newspaper "Қазақ әдебиеті". He worked as the editor-in-chief of the republican literary magazine "Жұлдыз". Author of more than 40 poetry collections. The first collection of poems by S. Maulenov was published in 1948, since then more than thirty poetry books have been published. For the book of poems "Red Juniper" and "April Rain" in 1971 S. Maulenov was awarded the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR. Abaya.
The streets of Almaty, Kyzylorda, Kostanay, Arkalyk are named after him. The name of S.Maulenov is given to a secondary school in the village of Torgai of the Zhangeldinsky district of the Kostanay region, a gymnasium in the city of Kostanay.
