Monument to A. Baitursynov (1873 – 1937)

Akhmet Baitursynov is a great son of the Kazakh people, spiritual leader of the nation, outstanding educator, Turkologist, linguist, reformer of the spelling of the Kazakh language, creator of the first Kazakh textbooks, poet, publicist, founder of the first national newspaper "Kazakh", prominent public and political figure.

Baitursynov was a brilliant writer, teacher, linguist. He reformed Kazakh writing on the basis of Arabic graphics, making it possible for millions of Kazakhs living abroad to use it. In 1912, Akhmet Baitursynov excluded all purely Arabic letters not used in the Kazakh language and added letters specific to the Kazakh language. The new alphabet, called "Zhana Emle" ("New spelling"), is still used by Kazakhs living in China, Afghanistan, Iran.

He developed the basics of Kazakh and scientific terminology to define Kazakh grammar.

From 1913 to 1918, Baitursynov was the editor of the national newspaper "Kazakh", on the pages of which the ideological prerequisites of the Kazakh constitutional democratic party "Alash" were created, which was organizationally formed in July 1917.

In June 1929, A. Baitursynov was arrested on charges of nationalist anti-Soviet activities, sentenced to death, in January 1931, the execution was replaced by exile to the Arkhangelsk region for 10 years.

In October 1937, A. Baitursynov was arrested again and shot on December 8, 1938 as a "class enemy". On November 4, 1988, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan rehabilitated A. Baitursynov for the absence of corpus delicti in his actions.

Kostanay State University is named after Akhmet Baitursynov, as well as one of the central streets of the city.

In 2000, a monument to a prominent statesman, political and public figure of Kazakhstan was inaugurated in the city of Kostanay with the participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. A. Nazarbayev − To Akhmet Baitursynov.

The author of the monument is a famous Kazakh sculptor, laureate of the State Prize, Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR Dosmagambetov Tulegen Sabitovich.

Description of the monument

The dating of the monument is 2000 .

The monument is installed on the square in front of the main building of Kostanay State University named after A. Baitursynov. The composition consists of three parts - a sculpture, a pedestal and a base. A prominent scientist, a public figure is depicted in a tailcoat, sitting in a thoughtful pose, leaning on an elegant table, holding a fountain pen in his right hand.

The sculpture is mounted on a figured pedestal lined with granite blocks. In the upper part of the pedestal, the inscription "Akhmet Baitursynuly" is carved on the front side. The pedestal is decorated with national ornaments on three sides. The base of the pedestal is made of concrete and lined with marble.

The height of the sculpture is 2 m., made of copper. The height of the pedestal is 95 cm .
