"Bird of the Year 2025 in Kazakhstan" is a mini-exhibition.

On February 11, 2025, the exhibition "Vulture - bird of 2025 in Kazakhstan" began its work in the hall "Natural Resources of Kostanay region". In April, vultures will start returning to Kazakhstan from India and Pakistan, as well as from Yemen and Saudi Arabia. This particular species was chosen as the Bird of the Year by the members of the Kazakhstan Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity (ASBK) — this year the vulture beat the Fringilla montifringilla in the voting, 60% and 40% of the votes were cast for them, respectively.

In Kazakhstan, vultures nest in the low mountains of Mangyshlak, Karatau, Kirghiz and Talas Alatau, Chu-Ili mountains, Zailiysky and Dzungarian Alatau.

The vulture (Neophron percnopterus) is the smallest of the five scavenging birds found in Kazakhstan. Its wingspan reaches 150-180 cm (vultures and vultures, for comparison, have a wingspan of about 3 m), and its weight is up to 2.5 kg. The adult vulture has white plumage with a black stripe at the ends of the wings, the young ones are brown. But at any age, a vulture can be recognized in flight by its wide wings and tapered, wedge-shaped tail. Vultures nest in pairs or colonies, nests are most often arranged in rock niches. There are 1-2 densely spotted eggs in the clutch, which are incubated by both parents. On average, about 502 pairs of vultures nest in Kazakhstan.

It is a rare species with declining numbers, it is in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. The vulture has the status of "Endangered" on the IUCN Red List.

The exhibition will run throughout the year.
